The word “Lutheran” comes from the name of a 16th century Roman Catholic monk, Martin Luther, who did much in his day to spur helpful reforms in the Church. One of the key Biblical teachings which Luther highlighted in his many writings, was the understanding that it is not primarily by our actions and initiative, but rather by God’s grace (God’s loving power and initiative) that we and the world are eventually brought to healing, wholeness and reconciliation. Similar to Roman Catholic and Anglican churches, Lutheran worship can be described as containing a blend of classical/historical, and contemporary/global sounds and features.
